SANFL ECH Walking Footy is back for 2022

By ZAC MILBANK

SANFL ECH Walking Footy is set to make a comeback with a highly-anticipated return to competition at Unley Oval on Wednesday April 6 at 10am.

Introduced in 2019, SANFL ECH Walking Footy is a modified Australian Football program designed to be fun, safe and inclusive.

With no running or tackling, and played on a field the size of a basketball court, SANFL ECH Walking Footy is a six-a-side mixed team game specifically created for participants aged over 50.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, seasoned Walking Footy campaigner Alison Lock said she ”fell in love” with the concept after deciding to lace up the boots three years ago.

A keen participant in ”physical fitness” all her life – chiefly through bike riding – Alison said she was able to pick up the skills required very quickly despite never playing Australian Football.

Now Alison is eagerly awaiting the start of the six-week 2022 SANFL ECH Walking Footy season at the home of the Double Blues, having participated in one of three Come and Try sessions during February.
