The inaugural season of the SANFL Blind Low Vision League (BLV League) supported by Guide Dogs SA/NT will officially get underway this Saturday at AFL Max.

Two teams of eight will take part a four-match series, which will be played indoors at AFL Max, ensuring a controlled environment which allows players to hear the sound of the modified Sherrin football.

Additional modifications include a specially designed Sherrin football that features an electronic beeper to produce a loud sound to assist with tracking the ball, and goal umpires who shake rattles when the football enters the scoring zone to identify the location of the goals.

The BLV League has also been supported through State Government funding from the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing’s Collaboration Grants program.

The season was officially launched last week by the Hon Rhiannon Pearce MP, Guide Dogs SA/NT, Blind Sports SA and Rory Sloane at AFL Max, with BLV League players partaking in an exhibition match
