SANFL great Bob Quinn to be inducted into South Australian Sport Hall of Fame

One of SANFL’s greatest footballers, Bob Quinn MM, will be posthumously inducted into the South Australian Sport Hall of Fame.

An inaugural inductee into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame, Bob’s tremendous legacy was built while playing 239 games and kicking 389 goals for Port Adelaide from 1933 to 1947, either side of his military service during World War 2.

A dual winner of the Magarey Medal, in 1938 and 1945, the triple premiership player won four best-and-fairests with the Magpies whilst also captain-coaching the club to the 1939 premiership.

”Bob’s name fittingly adorns the best-on-ground medal for SANFL’s annual Anzac Day match, in a nod to his stunning bravery displayed in earning the Military Medal following the Siege of Tobruk,” SANFL CEO Darren Chandler said.

”SANFL extends its congratulations to the Quinn family for Bob to be honoured in such a richly-deserved manner.”

Introduced in 2002, the Bob Quinn Medal will again be awarded to the best player in this year’s traditional Grand Final rematch, between Norwood and North Adelaide at The Parade on April 25.

A proud South Australian, Bob represented the State on 15 occasions including three as captain from 1945 to 1947, his final appearance earning All-Australian selection.

Sport SA announced on Monday that Bob would be one of the 2023 inductees when the Hall of Fame gala event is held at Adelaide Oval on Friday March 3.
