AAMI SA U16 Team defeat Victoria Country in Game 2

The AAMI SA U16 Team has kept its Marsh AFL National Chamionships hopes alive with a fighting 23-point win against Victoria Country in Game 2 at Peoples First Stadium on the Gold Coast.

Determined to start faster after a slow opening proved costly in their Game 1 loss to Western Australia, the Croweaters did exactly that by slamming on the opening three goals of the contest.

But Victoria Country – coming off a comfortable win against Victoria Metro in its Game 1 – soon responded by kicking the next six majors in succession to lead by three goals five minutes into the second stanza.

South Australia fought back though, putting together a string of four goals in a row to have its nose in front by five points at the main change.

SA key forward Harrison Schubert booted two of his four goals for the game to open the second half as his side piled on five for the term to have a handy 15-point buffer at three-quarter time.

By the time Schubert led nicely into the pocket and slotted a tough 35m set shot close to the boundary, 13 minutes into the fourth quarter, the Croweaters were set to enjoy their first victory of the Championships.

SA inclusion Kit Saracino made his presence felt to boot his two goals in the first quarter while Fergus Vogt and Josh Allan also booted two majors for the match.

AAMI SA U16 vice-captain Jacob Westley led the way off half-back and through the middle to collect a team-high 24 disposals while Logan Treverton had 22 possessions and the final goal of the match.

SA will now prepare for Game 3 against Victoria Metro at Fankhauser Reserve in Southport on Friday from 9am SA time.
