What are my first steps to being involved in SANFL Juniors umpiring?

What are the requirements to umpire?

A keen attitude and willingness to learn are the major things. We will provide you with more detailed information on what we need from you at the Foundation Umpiring Course but it should be noted you will be expected to:

1. Register on our online Umpires database Officials HQ (It’s free and easy to use)

What games will I umpire?

Games will vary depending on what umpiring discipline you are involved in and when you are available, everyone’s journey is different based on their capabilities and experience in the game so we will be working to find the right fit for you. Depending on game availability, we also work to ensure the games that you umpire are in the general area of where you live to reduce travel as much as possible. You can help us make sure we have the right fit for you by letting us know you are comfortable with the age groups you are umpiring and marking in any times you are unavailable each week and we will do our best to find the right games for you.

What coaching will I receive?

After you have completed your Foundation Course and the season gets started, SANFL Juniors umpires have the opportunity to train weekly at one of 8 different venues to continue to learn and develop skills. We also have a dedicated team of Coaches & Mentors that will go around to different grounds on match days and assist you with some feedback to help you best perform the role (particularly across your first few games).
