Tackling Tiger Lucy reaches 50 Hostplus SANFLW League games

Tennis and netball were never going to cut it for Glenelg’s Lucy Armitage.

As she approaches her 50th Hostplus SANFLW League game for the Tigers on Saturday, Armitage revealed it was the physicality of footy which attracted her to the game.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, the 25-year-old knew she would pursue Australian Football following the advent of the AFLW, making her debut for the Bays in 2019.

This came after two seasons with local women’s football factory Morphettville Park, where she developed a penchant for laying tackles at will.

Glenelg’s No.14 loves nothing more than trapping the ball inside 50m for as long as possible through defensive pressure while also hitting the scoreboard.

This blend led to Armitage winning the club’s inaugural SANFLW Trademark Player Award in 2020, an accolade she cherishes today.

Now all the Behaviour Therapist is searching for is a win in her milestone match, against South Adelaide at Stratarama Stadium on Saturday.

She has already contacted her six-year-old niece Piper to ensure she will be a part of the on ground celebration, with Armitage already doing her best bolster the Bays’ ranks in a decade.
