The inaugural Novita SANFL Wheelchair Grand Final took place on Friday night, with Sturt defeating Norwood by 42 points.

In front of a packed house at The Lights Community and Sports Centre, the Double Blues capped off their perfect undefeated season to become the inaugural premier of the league, winning 80 to 38.

In what was a relatively close game until after half-time, Sturt only led Norwood by three points at the main break.

However, it was all Sturt after half-time, increasing its lead to 36 points at three-quarter-time to eventually run out 42-point winners.

”Every single player and club had made history just by being a part of this inaugural competition – so to have had the honour of being Captain of the Sturt is one that I will treasure for a lifetime,” Sturt captain Steven Avery said.

”The team and the club have made it an absolute pleasure to be Captain. When you have a team that works together and supports each other instead of arguing, it makes for an amazing season.”

In the battle for third-place, Woodville-West Torrens defeated Central District by 52 points, dominating from the outset after scoring 4.5 to 0.4 by half-time.

Premier Steven Marshall was also out at the game, presenting Sturt captain Steve Avery with the premiership cup at the end of the match.
