Spence Wins 2019 Reserves Magarey Medal

By ZAC MILBANK

Norwood midfielder Jed Spence has won the 2019 Reserves Magarey Medal.

Starting the season with his local club Payneham Norwood Union, Spence made the most of his opportunity when called up by the Redlegs to poll a total of 15 votes from just 13 matches in the SANFL Statewide Super Reserves competition.

The 19-year-old ball magnet finished two votes ahead of joint runners-up, Sturt’s Ed Allan and Eagle Jake Comitogianni.

North’s James Schwarz, Sturt’s Adam Trenorden and West’s Ken Karpany were the other players to attract a double figure vote tally.

Measuring in at 177cm and 71kg, Spence – who averaged 21 disposals this year – is considered to be a clever onballer on the inside of the contest who can also take a strong overhead mark.

Spence is the first Norwood player to win the Reserves Magarey Medal since Dylan Reinbrecht shared the award with Eagle Matt Appleton in 2015.
