The AAMI SA U18 Girls team has claimed a huge 52-point victory over WA at Mineral Resources Park (Perth) in Game 1 of the 2026 Marsh AFL National Championships – U18 Girls.
The Croweaters got off to a flying start in the first term, kicking four unanswered goals from Madeline Nuss (two), Cheslea Newitt and Demi Holloway – the SA defence standing tall also to keep the Sandgropers scoreless.
The second quarter was no different as the goals kept on coming for SA, with forward Isabella Beaumont slotting one early in the quarter, followed by Maia Freemantle, Elke Cameron, Nuss and Newitt, the score 57 to zero at half time.
Western Australia finally found themselves on the scoreboard in the third term, with the visitors responding instantly via Emily Mableson, who kicked a beautiful long-range goal on the run, making it SA’s 10th major of the game.
Nuss then bagged her fourth major, slotting the Croweaters’ 11th from a slight angle after making the most of a WA turnover – SA heading into the penultimate break 51 points up.
Cameron kicked the lone SA goal in the final term, but the damage was already done as South Australia started its championship campaign with a bang.
Goalsneak Nuss was judged best afield for the Croweaters for her four-goal haul, with captain Emma Charlton prolific across the ground, collecting 32 disposals, four marks, four clearances, four tackles.
Mableson (23 disposals), Polly Turner (six marks), Cameron (19 disposals, six marks), and Lani Cocks (25 disposals, five tackles, three clearances) were also all excellent for South Australia.
The Croweaters will now look to their Game 2 clash with the Allies at Alberton Oval on Sunday, 21 June, from 11:30am.
