Guy not ready to turn new Page

Sturt's Guy Page flies high for a mark in Round 14 against Glenelg.

Dual Sturt premiership defender Guy Page was on track to play his 150th SANFL League game without a miss.

Making his debut in Round 1 of 2013, the reliable backman went on to play the next 123 in succession until he suffered a broken fibula in Round 2 of 2019.

Initially thought to have a 6-8 week injury, Page didn’t return to the Double Blues’ League line-up until Round 1 of 2020 after a series of setbacks including syndesmosis in his ankle.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, the 27-year-old revealed he has since gained a greater appreciation for other aspects of the game, particularly coaching, while sitting on the sidelines two years ago.

Page has relished suddenly becoming one of the elder statesmen at Oxford Terrace this year, providing invaluable on-field guidance along with fellow 150-gamer, captain James Battersby.

But before the mechanical engineer ventures down the coaching path, he’s determined to extract everything he can from his playing career, starting with Saturday’s season-defining clash with Port Adelaide at Unley.

Sturt’s Guy Page is preparing for a future in coaching once his playing career comes to an end.
