Sturt has secured the signature of its highly-regarded coach Marty Mattner until the end of 2028 after the triple premiership mentor inked a two-year contract extension.
Mattner, who guided the Double Blues to flags in 2016 and 2017 in his first stint at Unley before landing the ultimate prize in 2025, has again developed his outfit into a consistent Hostplus SANFL League force, on track to again feature in the major round this year.
“Sturt Football Club means a great deal to me and my family,” Mattner said.
“I am incredibly grateful for the support of the Board, staff, players, volunteers, members and partners who make this Club such a special place.
“We have a talented playing group, a committed football department and a united club. While we are proud of what has been achieved, there is still plenty we want to accomplish together.
“I’m excited by the opportunities ahead and look forward to continuing to work with everyone involved as we strive for sustained success.”

Having previously worked in the AFL system with the two clubs he played for at elite level – Adelaide and Sydney – Mattner has understandably had his name mentioned in a potential return to the top flight.
But the 43-year-old has now secured his short-term future at Oxford Terrace, the place where he also featured in a premiership as a player in 2002.
“Marty’s record speaks for itself,” Sturt president Jason Kilic said.
“He transformed our football program when he first arrived in 2016 and delivered back-to-back premierships. Since returning to the club in 2021, he has continued to drive a culture of excellence and professionalism across every aspect of our football program.
“His leadership, football knowledge and ability to develop players make him one of the most respected coaches in the SANFL. Just as importantly, he is a person of outstanding character who genuinely cares about our players, staff and club.”
“The board is thrilled that Marty has committed to leading the Double Blues through the 2027 and 2028 seasons and we look forward to continuing to build on the strong foundations that have been established under his guidance.”
