Grand Final stage is set for 2022 Torrens University Cup

In an historic first for the SANFL, the U16 and U18 Torrens University Cup Grand Finals will be played this Friday night under lights at Adelaide Oval.

This will be the first time both elite boys league grand finals are showcased as a double header following the expansion this year of the U16s league to a full season, in line with the U18s.

Following the Preliminary Finals for both grades last Saturday, Woodville West Torrens secured its spot in the U16s Grand Final against Glenelg after a 7 point win over South Adelaide, while the Tigers also confirmed a spot against North Adelaide in the U18s after narrowly defeating Norwood by 6 points.

The Torrens University Cup Grand Finals will be streamed live and on-demand on SANFL Now and on The Advertiser’s KommunityTV platform.

The U18 Torrens University Cup Grand Final will feature a number of players selected to attend either the 2022 National or State AFL Draft Combines in October. They include North Adelaide’s Isaac Keeler, Billy Dowling and Shaun Bennier and Glenelg’s Jakob Ryan, Jake Walker and Archie Lovelock. McCallum Tomkins Medal Winner and Glenelg U18s captain Ben Ridgway, not eligible for the Draft until 2023, also will feature.

In the U18 Torrens University Cup Grand Final, North Adelaide will be chasing its first premiership since 2005 while Glenelg will be looking to salute for the first time since its nail-biting after-the-siren win against the Roosters in 2016.

Minor premier Glenelg will be looking to continue its domination of the U16 Torrens University Cup competition as it strives for its fifth flag in six years, having won four in succession from 2016 to 2019. In contrast, in-form Woodville-West Torrens has its sights set on claiming its inaugural U16 premiership.

Entry to Adelaide Oval for the Torrens University Cup Grand Finals is FREE.

The South Level 1 food & beverage kiosk and bar, as well as the Phil Ridings Bar in the Western Stand, also will be open for patrons.

The SA Football Budget Grand Final edition, including team lists for the Torrens University Cup Grand Finals, will be available for sale at the Food and Beverage kiosks for $5.
