Glenelg parts ways with senior coach Brett Hand

By ZAC MILBANK

Glenelg has parted ways with 2021 Grand Final coach Brett Hand with a year to run on his contract.

Hand, who guided the Tigers to 17 consecutive wins to start the minor round last season, originally signed a two-year deal before inking a one-year extension in February.

“Brett is a great family man with strong values and has been well liked at the footy club. The Club would like to thank Brett for his dedication and commitment over the last two seasons,” Glenelg president Peter Carey said.

Named The Advertiser Team of the Year Coach in 2021 for steering the Bays to the minor premiership, Hand was unable to guide his charges to the premiership after being soundly beaten by Woodville-West Torrens in the title-decider.

The Tigers – who registered a 12-6 win-loss record in this year’s minor round – finished fourth in 2022, defeating Sturt in the Elimination Final before succumbing to premier Norwood in the First Semi-Final.

Glenelg will now seek to secure its third coach in succession during the month of December after the late departures of 2019 premiership mentor Mark Stone (Brisbane) and Matt Lokan (Port Adelaide) to AFL opportunities.
