Glenelg stabilised its place in the Hostplus SANFL League top three with a lacklustre seven-point win against a spirited Central District at X Convenience Oval.

Banking the premiership points to secure second spot on the ladder, the Tigers were unable to produce any great highlights as they failed to break clear of the determined Dogs.

Little more than two goals separated the sides throughout the afternoon and it wasn’t until the final term that the visitors – who won the inside 50m count 45-34 – made their match-winning move.

With scores tied at three-quarter time, the Bays edged ahead when Ken Farmer Medal favourite Lachie Hosie nailed his third goal from a 35m set shot following a free kick.

Just two minutes later, Tiger teammate Hunter Window doubled the advantage with his set shot after receiving a 25m penalty when Bulldog Maximus Monaghan ran through the mark.

But Matthew Clarke’s men were unable to put the Bulldogs away as Tallan Rosenzweig put his side within a goal after a 25m penalty sent him to the goal square entering time-on.

That man Hosie effectively secured the result with a behind from a snap along the boundary  in the 23rd minute, leaving Tiger fans to breathe a sigh of relief.

Bays midfielder Corey Lyons was outstanding in the middle with his 36 disposals, 12 marks and 5 clearances while Jonty Scharenberg (25 disposals) and Patty Parnell (24 disposals) showed tremendous poise at crucial stages, ensuring their side would dictate the tempo.

Hosie tallied 20 disposals and four clearances to go with his 3.3 as he made the most of his 2026 move into the midfield at times while Powerade Breakthrough Player nominee Remi Brown again impressed with his 18 disposals, six marks, seven tackles and two goals for the Bays.

Central captain Kyle Presbury showed plenty of heart to finish with a team-high 27 disposals and 10 clearances after looking like his day was over on the verge of half-time when helped off the field by trainers, unable to put weight on his left leg.

But the Dogs’ No.7 returned to have an impact in the second half as Josh Fahey collected 19 disposals to break the lines and kick a contender for Channel 7 Goal of the Week when he broke from centre stoppage, took two bounces and goaled from long range.

Wingman Kai Pudney finished with 18 disposals in his 100th game while Billy Iles returned to the line up to tally 15 disposals for the Dogs.
