There’s no love lost between these two best friends on game day.
U18 girls’ captains Emily Duthy (Sturt) and Molly Sennar (Norwood) – schoolmates, best friends and junior teammates at Glenunga – finally came up against each other in Round 5 of the AAMI Talent League Girls last Sunday afternoon.
Emily and Molly are currently completing Year 12 and studying the same subjects together at Seymour College, having met in primary school.
“It’s awesome having a really close friend who does all the same things as you, and going through the same pressures as you,” Molly said.
Both girls also play school football, with Seymour producing some handy AFLW and SANFLW players over the years including Imogen Trengove (Woodville-West Torrens) who was drafted to Collingwood’s AFLW side with Pick 8 in 2025.
The two skippers rose through the ranks at Glenunga Football Club, having played there since 2018, when they were both in U10s.
“It was so much fun (coming through the ranks together). Molly and I play inside mid, and we work really well together,” Emily said.
“We were in each other’s team the majority of the time at Glenunga and now we play together at school.”

The girls finally got their chance to face off against each other on Sunday afternoon, with the Redlegs coming away with the win, however they rarely found themselves competing against each other
“We weren’t matched up on each other a lot,” Emily said. “There were a few tackles laid on each other, but we were mostly on the other side of each other in the stoppages.”
Molly was more matched up on Emily’s sister – Mia – who also plays for the Double Blues.
“It was a lot of fun. A lot of the Sturt team are Glenunga girls, and former Glenunga girls, so playing against my friends there was a bit of friendly rivalry which was great.”
Whilst the draw to eventually play club footy together is still there, Emily and Molly are both very content at their respective SANFLW clubs.
“I love Sturt and I am very happy at Sturt, and same for Molly, she loves Norwood, so we can’t ever see ourselves moving,” Emily said.
Round 6 of the AAMI Talent League Girls gets underway tonight with Glenelg hosting Norwood at Stratarama Stadium from 5pm, and North Adelaide taking on Sturt at Revo Fitness Oval at 5pm.
