Cuz getting a buzz back at the Bay

Reaching 150 Hostplus SANFL League games has never been on the agenda of Glenelg premiership captain Chris Curran.

After departing Tigerland at the end of the 2021 season, Curran had seemingly played his last game for the Bays as he embarked on a career in medicine.

The 33-year-old kept his hand in footy by lining up with Tigers premiership teammate Andrew Bradley at Prince Alfred Old Collegians in 2022 and 2023 as he kick-started his career off the field.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, Curran revealed that a phone call from new Tigers captain Liam McBean sparked the movement for him to return to the club in 2024.

Now settled as a qualified General Practitioner, coupled with he and wife Kelly welcoming son Grayson into the world in March, Curran was in a position to tackle life as a SANFL League footballer again.

Extremely grateful for the support and trust of his new coach Darren Reeves, the man known as ”Cuz” is eager to repay the faith in his new role further up the field.

Featuring regularly on the wing in all 10 games this season, Glenelg’s No.21 is returning impressive averages of 19.4 disposals and six marks at 86 per cent efficiency.

No doubt he will be hoping his form, and that of his second-placed team, continues for his milestone match against Adelaide at Stratarama Stadium on Saturday.

Recruited to Brighton Road from the Victorian country town of Horsham, Curran made his League debut in Round 3 of 2011 having spent the entire 2010 season toiling away in the Reserves.
