It was a longer wait than usual but that didn’t prevent North Adelaide’s Campbell Combe from relishing his plaque being unveiled along Magarey Grove this week.
The 2020 Magarey Medallist had his presentation delayed due to Covid-19 protocols but the sun was shining as he shared the occasion with his family, who had traveled from Crystal Brook.
Only younger brother and teammate Will was missing after he drew the short straw of having to remain on the farm in the State’s mid north.
”He had to stay home working but he will come down to Adelaide for training later in the day,” Combe said of Will, last year’s Powerade Breakthrough Player.
”It’s a bit unfortunate but I was able to celebrate with him on the night (he won the Magarey) so that was good.”

Proud Crystal Brook local and SA Football Commission Chairman Rob Kerin fittingly spoke glowingly of Combe, with his coach Jacob Surjan also in attendance.
And in a nice touch, fellow Roosters’ Magarey Medallist Brenton Phillips – who coached Combe in SA’s U18 team – made sure he was there to witness the special moment.
”It was very special to have him here too as he’s a Magarey Medallist and an absolute great of the game,” Combe said.
