Brett’s getting an early handle on Bays’ list

By ZAC MILBANK

New Glenelg coach Brett Hand is itching to have his first live look at his playing list when the Bays tackle a Northern Territory All-Stars outfit in Darwin on Saturday.

Appointed as a replacement for premiership mentor Mark Stone just two days prior to Christmas Day, Hand has been busy conducting meetings via Zoom and watching vision of the Tigers while serving his 14-day quarantine period.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, the former GWS Development and Welfare manager said he was looking forward to returning to TIO Stadium where his League coaching journey began with NTFL side St Marys.

The Tigers will travel north with around 65 Men’s and Women’s players, together with staff, for the double-header against the NTFL’s best, with the Women’s match starting at 4pm before the Men clash at 6.30pm.

Glenelg recruits Lachie Hosie, Sam Durdin, Toby Pink and Will Chandler have been named in the 24-player Men’s squad while Women’s coach Jason Fairall will welcome former Sturt captain Caitlyn Swanson and South recruit Airlie Schirmer into his line-up.

Revealing that his brother-in-law’s father is former Glenelg chairman John Robinson, Hand described himself as a relationship-building coach, built off his 16 years as a teacher before entering the coaching fraternity.

The 50-year-old is excited about the current blend on the Bays’ senior list with several senior premiership stars still remaining as talented youngsters are beginning to forge their way into the League arena for the club’s centenary season.

Glenelg’s two clashes with the NTFL sides in Darwin will be replayed on the NTFL’s YouTube Channel  on Sunday evening.
