ANZAC Day match guide

April 23, 2025

Anzac Day is one of the most significant days on the football calendar, with all SANFL Clubs unified in paying respect to the sacrifices of our past and present service men and women.

All Hostplus SANFL League Anzac Day matches across the long weekend will feature an observance ceremony before the first bounce in acknowledgement of the contribution and sacrifice of those who have served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.

The ceremony includes the traditional Ode of Remembrance and Last Post before a moment’s silence, Rouse and National Anthem.

In a show of respect, every SANFL Club hosting match days across Anzac Day matches will be offering free entry to all Veterans and Ex-Serving Members of the Australian Defence Force.

As reigning Premiers, Glenelg earns the right to host 2024 grand finalist Norwood in the 2025 Anzac Day feature match on Anzac Day.

SANFL’s traditional ANZAC Day re-match between the previous season’s grand finalists dates back to 1948 and is one of the most significant match days in the SANFL minor premiership season.

The Bob Quinn Medal – named after the late South Australian Football Hall of Fame inductee, dual Magarey Medal winner, Port Adelaide great and decorated World War II legend – will be presented to the Best on Ground player at the conclusion of the Glenelg v Norwood Anzac Day match by Bob’s son, Greg Quinn.

SANFL Executive General Manager Football Matt Duldig said Anzac Day matches were significant days in the history of South Australian football and provided a great opportunity for players, coaches, umpires, volunteers and fans to embrace and commemorate the Anzac spirit.

“We really encourage fans to soak up the atmosphere at SANFL matches this Anzac Day long weekend,” Duldig said.

“It’s an opportunity to pay their respects to the sacrifices of our past and present service men and women with the very moving and emotive pre-match formalities, then enjoy some great SANFL footy action on the field.”
