The eye-catching athleticism of Woodville-West Torrens key forward Charlie West was on show in-front of recruiters at the 2024 Telstra AFL National Draft Combine in Melbourne on the weekend.

West, who made his Hostplus SANFL League debut with the Eagles this season, finished sixth overall in the 20m sprint with a time of 2.957 seconds, then placed ninth in the standing vertical jump by reaching a height of 70cm.

The mobile tall played a key role in the Eagles thrilling SANFL U18 grand final triumph last month, booting two crucial goals as Woodville-West Torrens came back from 33 points down to claim victory.

The speed of Central Districts’ Charlie Nicholls also caught the eye as the tall forward finished eighth in the 20m sprint with a time of 2.962 seconds.

Glenelg midfielder and Carlton father-son prospect Lucas Camporeale showed off his impressive leap by finishing equal-fourth in the running vertical jump (91cm) and tenth in the standing vertical jump (69cm).

Fellow Tiger Angus Clarke furthered his draft credentials by placing equal-third in the 2km time trial with a time of six minutes and 16 seconds.

Players underwent medical screenings and interviews at the MCG prior to the physical testing at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.

Highly-rated South Adelaide midfielder Sid Draper (back), Glenelg wingman Ben Camporeale (hamstring) and Norwood on-baller Jacob Newton (foot) were invited but did not take part in the testing due to injury.

A further 14 SANFL players have been invited to the State AFL Draft Combine, which will be held on Saturday October 12 at Nazareth College and SA Athletics Stadium.

South Adelaide’s Esther Schirmer impressed at the Telstra AFLW National Draft Combine in Melbourne, placing among the top 10 in the agility testing.

The 2024 premiership player finished eighth overall with a time of 8.781 seconds.

Schirmer played an important role in the Panthers’ Hostplus SANFLW League premiership, averaging 14 disposals and 4.5 marks in 16 matches.

Central District key defender Charlotte Riggs placed tenth in the running vertical jump, reaching a height of 60cm.

Nine SANFLW players have been invited to the AFLW State Draft Combine in Adelaide on Saturday October 12.
