Based in the north-western suburb of Alberton, Port Adelaide has been the most successful SANFL club at League level, winning a record 36 premierships since inception in 1870. The Magpies’ tremendous success resulted in Port Adelaide entering a team in in the AFL in 1997 while the black and white prison bars continue to play in the SANFL. Port’s roll call of stars is illustrious, including quadruple Magarey Medallist Russell Ebert, Ken Farmer Medallist Scott Hodges and John Cahill, who earned four premierships as a player and 10 as a coach.
