The 2025 SANFL Juniors season has officially launched, with junior players, umpires and volunteers coming together as part of the continuing Gather Round festivities, before the season gets underway later this month.

The season was launched by SANFL Chief Executive Officer Darren Chandler and Assistant Minister for Junior Sport Participation Rhiannon Pearce at the Maccas Footy Festival at Elder Park.

There were also appearances from Adelaide Crows players Sid Draper and Billy Dowling, Port Adelaide players Dante Visentini and Jed McEntee and Western Bulldogs players Ed Richards and Liam Jones, along with SANFL and SANFLW players from North Adelaide, Sturt, West Adelaide and Woodville-West Torrens.

“We are extremely proud to have the largest junior competition in Australia, providing over 10,000 girls and boys with the opportunity to play our wonderful game,” Mr Chandler said.

“Gather Round also provides the perfect opportunity to launch the season ahead and celebrate the 2025 season.”

Season 2025 will see the continuation of the successful Sit Down to Coach Rounds, which require all coaches and team officials to be seated in the designated coaching zone on the sidelines during play for all SANFL Juniors competitive matches.

Other initiatives this season include:

  • Continuation of Sammy D Violence Prevention Round, to be held on the weekend of June 27-29
  • First Nations Round, to be held in conjunction with NAIDOC Week on the weekend of July 4-6
  • The U11/12 competition has adopted the National Participation Framework in reducing the oval size and on-field numbers to create an optimal experience for players, and drive participation and enjoyment within the game
  • Continuation of the Ground Marshall accreditation process to ensure our Ground Marshalls have clear and aligned responsibilities on matchday and provide some key points to help with the role.

Round one of the SANFL Juniors 2025 season will kick off on the weekend of 25-27 April.

The Advertiser’s KommunityTV will also again be exclusively live streaming all preliminary finals matches, with every Grand Final streamed across both KommunityTV and SANFL Now.
