SANFL Draftees By The Numbers

Woodville-West Torrens is leading the way currently, and historically, when it comes to SANFL’s AFL Draft contribution, according to just released statistics.

As the AFL Draft on November 24-25 edges closer, statistician Phil Herden has researched all SANFL selections since the Draft’s inception in 1986.

And it’s the Eagles who come out on top with 107 selections during this period when factoring in players chosen from West Torrens (eight), Woodville (seven) and the amalgamated club (92) since 1991.

This edges out Norwood with 105 picks across the past 35 years, followed by Port Adelaide’s SANFL team on 88, Glenelg with 85 and North Adelaide having 82.

SANFL premier for the past two seasons, the Eagles also have more players than any other SANFL rival currently on an AFL list with 21, followed by Glenelg with 15 and North, Norwood and Sturt having 12 each.

After making a noticeable shift in selecting local last year, Adelaide is the AFL club with the most Croweaters on its list with 18, followed by fellow South Australian AFL club Port Adelaide with 13.

The Gold Coast Suns, with high-flying Jack Lukosius and Izak Rankine selected at No.2 and No.3 in 2018, have the most South Australians on their list for an AFL club outside of the state with nine, followed by Collingwood, Essendon and Melbourne with six each.
