Vale Barry Norsworthy

SANFL is mourning the passing of Player Life Member Barry Norsworthy.

Awarded Player Life Membership in 1980 after a distinguished career with Central District, Norsworthy played a total of 158 League games and kicked 178 goals in two stints with the Bulldogs.

Originally from Tea Tree Gully FC, Norsworthy was a skillful and balanced rover who won the Channel 7 SANFL Best First Year Player Award in his debut season of 1969.

The incredibly courageous Bulldog won two Norm Russell Medals as club best-and-fairest in 1975 and 1976 before heading to the VFL to play 21 games with Melbourne from 1977 to 1979.

He then returned to Elizabeth to earn club Playing Life Membership with Central District after his retirement in 1980.

One of the best rovers in the competition during his era, Norsworthy represented South Australia in two matches, against Tasmania and Victoria.

SANFL extends its deepest sympathy to the Norsworthy family as it honours Barry’s outstanding service to the game in South Australia.
