Glenelg premiership utility Brad Agnew was understandably burnt out by the end of the 2017 season.
After playing in a senior premiership with the Mt Burr Mozzies and a SANFL U18 crown in his first year with the Bays in 2009, Agnew could have been forgiven for thinking success would come easily.
Speaking on SANFL Radio, Agnew recalled how even his first League game saw Glenelg come from a 41-point deficit at three-quarter time to defeat Sturt in Round 1 of 2011.
But the Bays’ hard-working No.6 endured more lows than highs across the next seven seasons before taking 2018 to travel through Europe with his fiancee Mary.
It proved to be the ideal refresher for the 29-year-old, who is preparing to play his 150th SANFL League game against Central at ACH Group Stadium on Saturday.
Agnew went on to play a pivotal role through the centre square in the Tigers’ 2019 premiership season, producing a career-best performance in the Preliminary Final win against Adelaide.
Rating his favourite Grand Final moment as Marlon Motlop’s long goal late in the fourth term, Agnew is now looking forward to another opportunity to play at Adelaide Oval as the undefeated minor premiers prepare for September.
