South Adelaide led from start to finish in its clash with North Adelaide at Flinders University Stadium to chalk up its fourth victory of the season, winning by 38 points.

Claiming honours in the annual Sammy D Foundation match, the Panthers were quick out of the blocks with eight unanswered goals in the opening term, leading by 49 points at the first break.

The Roosters managed to work their way into the match during the second quarter, but still didn’t kick their first goal until the 19-minute mark of the term when tall forward Leo Coates kicked accurately from a long set shot.

Late in the game North had a period where it kicked four unanswered goals – including three consecutive goals to Shaun Bennier – to put a fright through the Panthers camp.

Early in the last term, Panthers forward Jamison Snelling booted his third goal to stop the Roosters momentum and went on to record an important victory.

North’s Matt Borg was his side’s leading possession winner with 26 disposals and 10 tackles, while Bennier finished the match with four second half goals.

Brayden Cook and Harry Spacie led South’s disposal count with 26 touches, Spacie winning the Sammy D Medal as best afield.

It seems Sturt midfielder Tom Powell is getting better with every match of the SANFL U18 Torrens University Cup.

The premier AFL Academy SA Hub midfielder has passed the 34-disposal mark on every occasion this season, averaging 35.5 touches in his six games including a 40-disposal game against Norwood in Round 5.

Powell perhaps played his best match of the season to date with 38 touches, three goals, 10 clearances and five tackles in Sturt’s mauling of Glenelg on Sunday afternoon.

The Double Blues jumped back to the top of the competition ladder when it comfortably defeated other early competition leader, the Tigers at ACH Group Stadium.

Sturt registered its fifth win of the season with a 100-point victory over Glenelg.

It looked to be a big defeat from the outset when the Double Blues hammered home six unanswered goals in the first term.

Tom Emmett booted the first goal for the day at the three-minute mark, followed up by Powell’s first and two for Zabien Parker-Boers and the Double Blues were away.

Sturt had nine goals on the board and a 64-point lead before Glenelg finally found its first goal through Jayden Davis at the 17-minute mark of the second term.

The first half was 11 goals to two and while the second half still wasn’t great reading, the Tigers worked their way into the match with three goals to seven.

While it was a triple figure margin, Glenelg was lucky Sturt was wayward with its goal kicking on what was a perfect day for football, booting 18.24.

Parker-Boers was the dominant forward with four goals from his 17 disposals, while Emmett booted three.

Jayden Davis was Glenelg’s leading goal kicker and ball winner with 21 disposals, two goals and 11 marks in a dark day for the Tigers.

While West Adelaide’s winless streak was extended to six on Saturday afternoon, Bloods and AFL Academy SA Hub midfielder Bailey Chamberlain’s outstanding season continued.

Behind Powell, Chamberlain sits second on the league’s disposal count, averaging 27, and against Norwood on Saturday he gathered 36 disposals, including seven marks, seven clearances and eight tackles.

After a close start to the match, the Redlegs gradually gained dominance over the Bloods and went on to claim a 38-point win at Hisense Stadium.

Norwood midfielder Cooper Murley is another player who has found plenty of the ball this season – averaging 26.8 and sitting third on the league disposal count.

On Saturday Murley found 34 disposals and a whopping 14 clearances for his side as he earned the Round 6 Torrens University MVP nomination.

Samuel Duke provided a fantastic tall target in the Redlegs forward line, taking four marks and kicking four goals, while Jackson Murphy kicked three.

Port Adelaide father/son prospect Jase Burgoyne had another stellar game for Woodville-West Torrens in its 46-point win over Central District at X Convenience Oval on Saturday.

Son of Power premiership player Peter Burgoyne, livewire midfield-forward Jase Burgoyne enjoyed 33 disposals, five clearances and a goal in his side’s comfortable win, while Brayden Calvett kicked 4.4 for the Eagles.

Woodville-West Torrens proved too strong for a wayward Bulldogs side, with the Eagles making their move midway through the second quarter when they kicked six unanswered goals.

The Bulldogs had plenty of opportunity to assert themselves on the contest during the second half but squandered goal kicking chances with 5.9 after half time.

Shay Linke was the Bulldogs’ best ball winner and goal scorer with 29 disposals and two goals.
