Obituary

Vale Roger Rigney

SANFL is mourning the passing of SANFL Player Life Member Roger Rigney.

Awarded SANFL Player Life Membership in 1972, Roger played 211 League matches for the Double Blues and booted 250 goals from 1959 to 1971.

Selected in SANFL’s Indigenous Team of the Century in 2011, Roger was a true pioneer for First Nations footballers in South Australia.

Earning Sturt Life Membership in 1966, Roger was one of just eight players to appear in all five of Sturt’s five consecutive premierships from 1966 to 1970.

As a result, Roger was a fitting inductee into the Double Blues’ Hall of Fame in 2006.

SANFL extends its deepest sympathy to the Rigney family as it honours Roger’s outstanding service to the game in South Australia.
