Obituary

Vale Peter Beythien

SANFL is saddened by the recent passing of Central District Football Club great and SANFL Player Life Member Peter Beythien.

Beythien, who passed away in late October aged 62 after a long battle with cancer, played 285 games with Central District between 1975 and 1988.

Described by Australian Football.com as being “solidly effective rather than eye-catchingly spectacular”, Beythien was a ruckman and forward for the Bulldogs.

Making his League debut in 1975 at the age of just 17, he was awarded Central District’s Best and Fairest in his third senior season in 1977.

His final tally of League games for the Bulldogs was second only to teammate and good friend, SANFL Hall of Famer Peter Vivian.

SANFL and the South Australian Football Commission wishes to extend its sincere condolences to Peter’s family and friends as it honours his outstanding contribution to our game in South Australia.
