Glenelg’s Caitlyn Swanson had an extra little spur to ensure she extended her SANFLW League career into the 2023 season.
Stranded on 49 SANFLW League matches after the Bays lost last year’s Preliminary Final to Sturt, Swanson will join a select group of players to reach the 50-game mark when the Tigers face West Adelaide at Hisense Stadium on Saturday.
Speaking on SANFL Radio, the 28-year-old saw the irony in reaching her milestone against the club she made her SANFLW debut with in the competition’s first campaign of 2017.
Before then, Swanson racked up more than 50 games with SAWFL club Port Adelaide and in excess of 100 with female football powerhouse Morphettville Park.
It was at ”Morphies” where she enjoyed playing in a hat-trick of flags from 2014 to 2016 under the tutelage of current Eagles coach Narelle Smith and alongside Crows AFLW stars Ebony Marinoff and Anne Hatchard.
Swanson linked up with Marinoff again to play in the Bays’ historic 2021 SANFLW League premiership, where her crafty skills inside attacking 50m played an integral role in victory.
Currently a School Support Officer, Swanson is nearing the end of her teaching degree which has also provided an important balance to life while lining up in the black and gold.
