Matthew Snook surprisingly described his performance in last year’s Preliminary Final as ”poor.”
Glenelg’s feisty midfielder was in essence laying the platform to respond in the best way possible by claiming the Jack Oatey Medal in the 2019 Statewide Super League Grand Final.
The 28-year-old was superb in the centre square as the Bays broke their 33-year premiership drought against the Magpies, becoming just the third Glenelg player alongside Stephen Kernahan and Tony Hall to win the award.
He finished with 28 disposals, eight tackles and seven clearances to underline his importance to the Tigers’ midfield rotation.
Across the season, the left-footer averaged 23.7 disposals, six tackles and seven clearances en route to placing 10th in Glenelg’s best-and-fairest count.
Now with 112 League games to his name, Snook’s experience and determination will continue to be invaluable in the Bays’ premiership defence.
Selected by SANFL Media Producer Zac Milbank, the 2020 Statewide Super League Top 50 is being unveiled one player at a time on the League’s website and social media channels.
For incumbent SANFL players, form across the 2019 season was used as a significant factor in the selection process, with selection in The Advertiser Team of the Year, West End State squad, club leadership group and placings in club best-and-fairest weighing heavily.
This is to ensure there is meaningful movement of player rankings between each year’s Top 50 list at the start and end of the season.
Recruits to the Statewide Super League for 2020 have also been included, with significant AFL experience, performance at State League level and their predicted impact proving critical in deciding the order of players.
