SANFLW Coach Catch-Up – North’s Krissie Steen

By ZAC MILBANK

Undefeated North Adelaide is priming itself to strengthen its standing upon the resumption of the Statewide Super Women’s League on Saturday.

Banking four victories in succession to start the season, the Roosters will welcome AFLW-listed trio Anne Hatchard (Adelaide), Britt Perry (Gold Coast) and Talia Radan (West Coast) for the Round 5 clash with Sturt at Peter Motley Oval.

Hatchard, who won her first Crows AFLW Club Champion award earlier this year, will start in the midfield in her North debut, having previously played for South in the SANFLW.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, North Women’s coach Krissie Steen said experienced pair Perry and Radan had already made a positive imprint on the club’s youngsters at training.

Former North SANFLW captain Jess Edwards, currently in Melbourne, is also a chance to play at some point this season depending on how the Covid-19 situation develops across the border.

Steen’s challenge is to now fit all of her talent in at the selection table, given the promising early-season form of young duo Katelyn Pope and Amber Ward has already attracted the attention of AFLW scouts.

After playing the youthful Double Blues in Round 5, North will turn its focus toward a Round 6 encounter with a Glenelg outfit boosted by the presence of four Crows AFLW players including All-Australian Ebony Marinoff.

It has been a long wait for the Roosters considering their stirring come-from-behind win against fellow powerhouse South Adelaide – featured in the clip below – unfolded on March 14.
