SANFL to honour Norwood’s Nick Lowden

The SANFL and all clubs in the Hostplus SANFL League will pay tribute to Norwood Premiership player Nicholas Lowden across matches this weekend.

A minute’s silence will be observed before the start of each League match in Round 16 in honour of Nick, who passed away suddenly last week, aged 23.

Players and umpires will also wear black armbands across all SANFL grades, including Reserves and Torrens University Under-16 and Under-18 matches, to pay their respects.

Norwood will pay special tribute to Nick prior to the minute’s silence at its home match against South Adelaide at Coopers Stadium at 2:10pm on Saturday.

Nick played 22 League games for Norwood in 2022 and 2023, including all four finals matches last year. The talented young midfielder was recruited by the club from Casey Demons in the VFL in late 2021.

SANFL Chief Executive Officer Darren Chandler said Nick’s passing had impacted deeply on the South Australian football community and that it was appropriate that all 10 clubs in the men’s State League and supporters had the opportunity to pay their respects this weekend.

“Nick’s tragic and unexpected death has undoubtedly had an effect on everyone involved in football and collectively all clubs wished to remember him and honour his outstanding achievements during his time in our State League,” Mr Chandler said.

“This will also provide a moment together to reflect on how precious life is, and as a football community how we can get around each other for support.

“We continue to offer our sincere condolences to Nick’s family and friends, while our hearts go out to the players, coaches and staff of the Norwood Football Club and its broader community at the toughest of times.”

“I think it demonstrates how supportive and caring our football community is. This is incredibly comforting for our club, players, coaches, staff and certainly the Lowden family.”
