SA Football Commission Appointment

The SA Football Commission is pleased to announce the appointment of highly respected football administrator David Couzner as a member of the Commission, following the recent resignation of Luke McCabe.

Mr Couzner, a former SANFL League Director and Woodville-West Torrens FC Board Member, was appointed to fill the casual vacancy.

Mr McCabe, a Central District Premiership Player and Hawthorn past player and Life Member, tendered his resignation from the Commission following his appointment to the Hawthorn Football Club Board.

SA Football Commission Chairman the Hon Rob Kerin said Mr Couzner’s broad experience and knowledge of football, particularly in inclusion and diversity, would provide an additional skillset and new perspective to the leadership of South Australian football.

Mr Couzner is currently employed as Director of People, Culture and Engagement at Christian Brothers College and was the Head Coach of the SANFL State Inclusive Program which won the AFL National Inclusion Carnival in 2022.

“David has been a wonderful contributor to the Woodville West Torrens Football Club and football in South Australia, both an administrator and through his longstanding involvement in football,” Mr Kerin said.

“His passion for ensuring people of all ability have the opportunity to play football, as well as his strengths in people and culture, will benefit the SA Football Commission and SANFL immensely in its vision to connect communities through the enjoyment of football.”

Mr Kerin acknowledged and thanked Luke McCabe for his significant contribution in helping lead football in South Australia during his two-year tenure on the Commission.

Mr McCabe was in the second year of his three-year elected term.

“Luke’s business acumen and deep knowledge of football at AFL and SANFL level, together with his strong focus on community football since retiring from the game, had a significant and well-rounded impact on the leadership of South Australian football during his short tenure,” Mr Kerin.

“We wish Luke all the very best in his new appointment as Football Director on the Hawthorn Football Club Board and have no doubt he will help lead the club with great effect.”
