Meals on Wheels SA Exhibition Partner

Sponsored by Meals on Wheels

With its rich history of supporting and strengthening communities right across South Australia, Meals on Wheels SA is proud to partner with the SANFL for the “Our Footy. Our Stories. Our People” Exhibition. The Exhibition provides the perfect opportunity for Meals on Wheels SA to team up with the SANFL, another iconic organisation that shares both its values and a common vision for strengthening local communities with the help of each organisation’s incredible volunteer network.

Meals on Wheels and the SANFL are much-loved organisations steeped in history and part of the social fabric of South Australia. Nothing brings a community together more than the local footy. Weekend games are a main topic of conversation between both Meals on Wheels volunteers and customers!

Many past and present SANFL supporters, players and officials also have a deep connection with Meals on Wheels SA, helping prepare fresh, flavoursome and nutritious meals in the kitchen and providing the wheels to keep the essential service moving. One such past player, and coach is SANFL legend, John Halbert MBE AM who, after a distinguished football career, joined the volunteer ranks at the Burnside Meals on Wheels Branch some 10 years ago.

Operating with a mainly voluntary workforce of 6,000 people, Meals on Wheels SA delivers more than one million meals annually, from 83 branch outlets in metropolitan, regional, rural and remote areas. Our volunteers knock on 4,500 doors each weekday, providing nourishment, a friendly smile and chat, and a watchful eye on customers’ wellbeing.

More than 11,000 people receive our services each year. These are mostly older South Australians who are experiencing or are at risk from poor nutrition and isolation, and who want to stay living independently.

Volunteering with Meals on Wheels is both rewarding and fun and it would be wonderful if people attending the Exhibition are inspired to help at their local branch.

The “Our Footy. Our Stories. Our People” Exhibition extends Meals on Wheels’ connection with the South Australian community beyond the nourishing meals and warm conversation we serve our customers. For over 60 years, Meals on Wheels has never lost sight of its mission to foster well-nourished and independent communities. We are sure the exhibition will lift spirits at a time where it is needed most and hope it inspires comradeship and community spirit in both young and old, alike!
