Central District captain Jarrod Schiller has won the 2023 7News Adelaide SANFL Goal of the Year for his spectacular ”over-the-head” effort in Round 3.
One of three player short-listed for the annual award in Hostplus SANFL Grand Final week, the Bulldogs skipper managed to edge out Glenelg premiership pair Liam McBean and Brad McCarthy to attract the most fan votes.
Schiller, who guided his team into its first finals appearance since 2017, displayed plenty of creativity when he kicked the ball directly over his own head in the goal square while surrounded by a nest of Crows.
McBean and McCarthy, who both earned their second premiership medallions for the Tigers’ in their Grand Final win against Sturt, produced worthy solo efforts to book a place in the top three.
McBean managed to extract the ball out of the ruck against North Adelaide before snapping truly from 40m while McCarthy ensured just his third League goal would be memorable after finishing off a play he sparked in the defensive arc with a fine major on the run.
