Updated Tuesday April 8
The famous football rivalry between South Australia and Victoria is set to continue this weekend, with the SANFL men’s West End State team set to host its archrival, the VFL State Team, as part of this year’s AFL Gather Round at Tanunda Recreation Park.
Kicking off at 2.45pm this Saturday, 12 April, the Croweaters will be looking to make it two wins in a row, after defeating the VFL State team by 14 points at Glenelg’s Stratarama Stadium during Gather Round last year.
Dual Glenelg premiership coach Darren Reeves will take the coaching reigns this year, with the main training session to be hosted at Prospect Oval on Wednesday night, before a final captain’s run at Stratarama Stadium on Thursday.
The 26-player squad will be trimmed to a 23-player squad on Thursday, with a new leadership group to be announced.
The men’s West End State team holds an excellent record against the VFL, winning seven of its past eight matches, with its only loss coming in 2002 at Adelaide Oval.
