SANFL Statement – SA Football Commission Chairman

The Chairman of the South Australian Football Commission, John Olsen AO, has advised SANFL that he will not be seeking a further three-year term at the League’s Annual General Meeting in March.

Mr Olsen has served as Chair of the Commission for the past 10 years.

“During this time, we have achieved unprecedented change and progress in growing the game of football at all levels across the State,” Mr Olsen said.

“The representation of football throughout our community – whether it be male or female, senior or junior, coaching or umpiring, metro or regional, indigenous or multicultural – has never been stronger.

“Our talent pathways punch well above their weight and our SANFL competition continues to reinforce its position as the best outside of the AFL.

“It has been both a privilege and an enjoyable challenge to serve South Australian football over the past 10 years.”

Mr Olsen acknowledged the support of SANFL Clubs during this transformation of football in South Australia.

“SANFL Clubs’ support of the Commission and the League executive has been a critical component of the success of the past decade and I would like to put on record my personal appreciation to everyone at club level for their passion and commitment to the game we all love.

“I would also like to acknowledge and thank CEO Jake Parkinson and the SANFL team who are professional, dedicated and passionate about their commitment to the wellbeing of all SANFL competitions and programs.”

Mr Olsen will continue to serve as Deputy Chair of the Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority.

The SANFL AGM will be held at Adelaide Oval on Tuesday, March 10.
