The AAMI SA U16 Team has succumbed to Western Australia by 12 points in Game 1 of the Marsh AFL National Championships at Alberton Oval.
Trailing at every change and by as much 23 points at half-time, the Croweaters worked hard to drag themselves back into the contest with a fast finish.
Despite outscoring the Sandgropers in the final term with four majors without a miss, the hosts were unable to close the gap as the visitors’ weight of scoring shots painted the picture.
Tyler Hitch was rated as SA’s best performer for the campaign-opener while ruck Cooper Jolly was also influential.
Croweaters’ key forward Fergus Vogt had an impact by slamming through five goals while Harrison Schubert booted two.
SA captain Zane Rooney and his deputy Jacob Westley battled hard for their side, together with solid defender Jack Brooks, to also be among the better performers.
South Australia will now prepare for its final two games of the Championships with away clashes in Queensland against against Victoria Country on Tuesday July 14 in Game 2 and Victoria Metro on Friday July 17 in Game 3.
