If Jonty Scharenberg’s next 50 games are anything like his past 50, then joining the SANFL’s treasured 200 Club seems a deserved destination.
Admitting he’s produced career-best form in his past three seasons, Glenelg’s triple premiership defender continues to thrive, particularly in his role as an official leadership group member.
Speaking on SANFL Radio ahead of his 150th Hostplus SANFL League game on Saturday, the 27-year-old is still relishing his role across half-back as he helps usher through the next generation at Brighton Road.
The Bays’ No.2 is enjoying playing alongside the likes of emerging defenders Rex Jones, Beau Symonds and Will Patton as they forge their way under new coach Matthew Clarke.
Starting the season with a 4-1 win-loss record, the Tigers now face a significant challenge against the unbeaten Eagles at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval in Scharenberg’s milestone match.
It feels a long way from the build up to his 100th outing, in which Scharenberg and his teammates were preparing to face Sturt in the 2023 SANFL Grand Final.
Rating the 2023 title-decider as his personal favourite, Scharenberg has since gone on to play a vital role in the 2024 flag whilst also making his West End State Team debut last year.
Off the field, the well-spoken accountant continues to further himself as a member of SANFL’s finance team as he undertakes his CPA study amongst his football and work committments.
