Glenelg has announced a two-year contract extension for dual premiership mentor Darren Reeves, ensuring he will remain at Brighton Road until the end of 2028.

Already under contract until the end of 2026, Reeves has not surprisingly been tied down by the Bays for an extra two seasons, much to the delight of the Tiger faithful.

Since his arrival just before Christmas Day of 2022, the 49-year-old has been quick to imprint his relationship-focused style of coaching on the Glenelg playing group.

“The extension of Darren’s contract is representative of the trust, loyalty, and dedication his relationship with the playing group fosters,” Glenelg President David Whelan said.

”Darren will continue to coach the Bays through our seventh consecutive finals campaign this September, the third under his guidance.”

Joining Great of Glenelg Graham Cornes as only the second mentor to guide the Bays to back-to-back premierships in his first two seasons, Reeves steered the club into second place after the minor round with a 15-3 win-loss record.

Across his tenure with the Tigers, Reeves boasts an impressive 48-14 win-loss record overall, which includes 7-1 in the major round.

After previously acting as an assistant for two seasons, this year Reeves also took on the mantle as West End State coach for the first time.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to grow and set our football club up for the long term,” Reeves said.

“I’m thrilled to extend my time at the Glenelg Football Club. I’m excited about what is ahead for our club and especially our playing group. With our core group still strong and committed, and our younger players developing, we are in a great position to keep challenging over the next few years.

“We have incredible support from our commercial partners, we have a supporter base that is second to none so it is great to be a part of the next few years.”
