South Adelaide staged a stunning seven-point upset against Port Adelaide to give its youngsters plenty of belief at Magain Stadium.
With just one win for the season and facing a talent-laden Magpies outfit with just two SANFL-contracted players, the Panthers displayed plenty of spirit much to the delight of their faithful fans.
In contrast, the hosts blooded another two debutants – Tye McManus and Tom Barrett – while showing their maturity to hold on as the visitors charged home late in the contest.
The Panthers failed to keep the Crows from staging a comeback in Round 9 but this time they prevailed after gaining control of the encounter with 5.3 to 2.0 in the third quarter.
Jarrad Wright’s charges had three fewer inside 50 entries but laid 13 more tackles and took 16 more marks while earning their second win of the campaign.
South defenders Elliot Dunkin (29 disposals) and Oscar Clavarino (24 disposals, 12 marks) were outstanding performers with poise while Oliver Davis (20 disposals, five tackles) and Angus Bradley (19 disposals) worked hard in the middle.
Panthers forward Damon Freitag booted three goals while co-captain Sam Skinner appears to be enjoying his time in attack with two majors.
Port’s Jackson Mead responded to his AFL demotion with 26 disposals and a goal while Jack Lukosius, playing his first SANFL game since 2018, took a step forward from his back recovery with 16 disposals, 12 marks and two goals.

Adelaide blew North Adelaide away with a rampant 10-goal third quarter to bank a commanding 84-point victory at Prospect.
Leading by just 16 points after trailing by three goals midway through the first quarter, the Crows clicked into gear by piling on an impressive 10.1 to the Roosters’ one behind in the premiership stanza.
With key forward Chris Burgess 7.1 (for the match) running hot inside 50m, the Crows had plenty of contributors lining up to assist in claiming their eighth win of the season.
Luke Nankervis continues to prove he is a class above with 20 disposals, six marks and three goals while Kieran Strachan and Zac Taylor booted four goals each as their side finished with 23.10 (148).
Adelaide midfielders Harry Schoenberg and Lachlan Sholl each racked up 23 touches, together with key defender James Borlase, who tallied 15 marks.
Former Rooster Billy Dowling enjoyed his return to Prospect with 20 disposals and a goal while Sid Draper had 18 possessions.
North veteran Harrison Wigg tried all afternoon while collecting 33 disposals and 15 marks while Cody Raak continued his great form with 25 disposals and 11 marks.
Rooster recruit Angus Schumacher had 25 disposals and a goal while Noah Casalini – coming off a seven-goal haul in the Reserves, was North’s only multiple goal kicker with two.

A spirited Glenelg displayed plenty of heart to secure a hard-fought 16-point win against a resurgent Norwood at The Parade.
Working hard for a one-point edge at the final change, the Tigers made sure they won the important moments in the final quarter as they booted 3.4 to Norwood’s 1.1.
With veteran Max Proud a late withdrawal due to back soreness and Brad McCarthy out with a knee injury, Glenelg’s reshaped back line stood up thanks to the poise of Jonty Scharenberg and Alex Martini as youngsters Cooper Beecken and Beau Symonds toiled hard despite being under-sized.
Bays premiership mentor Darren Reeves rated it the best minor round victory in his two-and-a-half-year tenure as midfielder James Bell asserted himself on the contest early to finish with 22 disposals and 10 clearances en route to being named the X Golf Player of the Game.
Jarryd Lyons showed off his class with 21 disposals, two huge overhead marks and a goal while Patrick Parnell wasted very few of his 21 touches off half-back.
Bays skipper Liam McBean booted four goals including the sealer from an overhead mark in the last term while Lachie Hosie kicked a pair.
Norwood’s bigmen threatened to take the game from Glenelg’s grasp as Jackson Callow (four goals) and Tristan Binder (two goals) looked dangerous in attack as Billy Cootee (21 disposals) and Nik Rokahr (19 disposals) found their share of the Sherrin.

Sturt sent historians scurrying for the record books when it obliterated Woodville-West Torrens by a massive 124 points at Thomas Farms Oval.
Already asserting themselves on the competition as the team to beat, the Double Blues cruised to their 11th consecutive win on the back of a barnstorming 10-goal first quarter.
Marty Mattner’s men racked up a cricket score of 24.15 (159), significantly improving on their largest win over the Eagles from 81 points in Round 12 of 2008.
And if that wasn’t enough, Sturt is now SANFL’s equal all-time record-holder of consecutive minor round victories, with their tally of 24 matching Port Adelaide’s previous best between 1913 and 1915.
Sturt’s first term numbers were incredible as it racked up advantages of 19-5 (inside 50s), 14-7 (clearances), 74-32 (kicks), 34-10 (handballs) and 37-11 (marks).
Tom Lewis (29 disposals, one goal), Will Snelling (28 disposals, six clearances) and Casey Voss (28 disposals, 16 marks, one goal) were outstanding for the hosts as Charlie Parker, Angus Anderson and Jared Dakin each had 25 disposals.
Sturt forward Connor McFadyen was chief beneficiary in attack as he kicked a remarkable seven goals from seven kicks while Josh Hone had a day out with 17 disposals and four majors.
Sam Conforti and Oliver Grivell each kicked three goals for Sturt as 10 goal kickers created the scoreboard pressure.
The Eagles had James Rowe (25 disposals) and captain Joey Sinor (21 disposals) battle hard, with the latter not receiving the support he deserved in his 150th Hostplus SANFL League game.

Central District halted its three-game losing slide with a confidence-boosting 45-point win against West Adelaide at X Convenience Oval.
Coming off consecutive losses to Adelaide, the Eagles and Sturt, the Bulldogs needed to steady their spot in the top five.
And they did so in gritty fashion as they responded to each of the Bloods’ challenges, particularly when they fell four points down in the second quarter.
The hosts still managed to open up a 21-point lead by the main change before extending it to 26 by three-quarter time.
Central’s efficiency in its forward half was illustrated by it having 10 more scoring shots despite having one fewer inside 50 entry.
Bulldogs Kai Pudney (28 disposals, six marks), Luca Whitelum (25 disposals) and Leyton Chisholm (24 disposals) all led the way through the middle as bigman Beau Thomas shone with 15 disposals, four marks, three goals and 35 hit outs.
Aiden Grace also booted three goals for the Dogs while Nick Lange and Maximus Monaghan each booted two goals.
West’s Kobe Ryan displayed his never-say-die attitude again with 26 disposals while Jesse Thackeray had 24 disposals and eight clearances.
Hard-working Bloods midfielder Brady Searle had 22 disposals and a goal as Harvey Griffiths and Tom Scully kicked two goals each.
