Great teams find a way to win with their backs against the wall.
And this was exactly what Sturt mustered in thrilling fashion against old enemy Norwood when Casey Voss soccered through the match-winning goal with less than a minute on the clock at Thomas Farms Oval.
Defender Voss took a calculated risk to surge forward from half-back to hit the hot spot 20m from goal, find himself in space put the Double Blues in front for the first time since the third minute of the third quarter.
It capped off a remarkable comeback from the ladder-leading Blues, who trailed by as much as 15 points by the 23rd minute of the fourth quarter.
Key Redlegs forward Jackson Callow had a chance to shut the door on the hosts with his set shot from 35m but after missing the opportunity to boot his fifth, Sturt trimmed the margin to nine points when Angus Anderson snapped from close range in the 26th minute.
Josh Hone followed up his behind with a cool set shot on goal in the 30th minute, making the most of being awarded a free kick from 25m out on a slight angle.
It put Sturt within four points before it won the next vital centre clearance through Flynn Perez, who put a long ball deep inside 50m for Voss to produce his memorable major much to the delight of the majority of the 4571 in attendance.
Voss finished his day with 21 disposals and seven marks to go with his stunning solo effort as teammate Will Snelling made a welcome return from calf tightness to rack up 26 disposals, eight clearances, 14 tackles and a crumbing goal.
Tom Lewis worked hard for his 24 touches, seven clearances and seven tackles while the rapidly improving Anderson tallied 19 disposals, five clearances, 10 tackles and a goal.
Hone and Connor McFadyen booted two goals each as Sturt kicked 5.1 to the Legs’ 2.2 in the final term to steal the premiership points.
Norwood had Billy Cootee perform strongly with 25 disposals, nine clearances and a goal while Baynen Lowe continues to gain touch after his long-term shoulder injury, recording 21 disposals, 10 clearances and two goals.
Legs midfielder Nik Rokahr had 20 disposals and 10 tackles while Pierce Seymour was a steady influence in defence with 19 disposals and 11 marks.
Callow booted a match-high four goals from his 14 disposals and five marks as Norwood fell to a 2-7 win-loss record.
