Jaiden Magor may not have managed an AFL debut in his two years with the Sydney Swans but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t learned plenty from the experience.
The Panthers’ junior is now itching to impart that wisdom on his fellow teammates as they continue their development as a young group under coach Jarrad Wright.
Magor is most likely to play through the middle, off a wing or half-forward but he was schooled as a half-back with the Swans, an opportunity he relished at VFL level.
The 21-year-old found plenty of the footy, averaging 19 disposals in his final six outings with the Swans.
Now back managing his family’s new gin distillery on the Fleurieu Peninsula, the Myponga Sellicks product will be one to watch in the Hostplus SANFL League.
Few would argue that Phoenix Hargrave was the unluckiest South Australian not to have his name called by an AFL club last November.
A natural ball-winner, the SA U18 midfielder made six appearances at Hostplus SANFL League level where he impressed in a high half-forward role.
Expect the Reynella product to spend a lot more time through the midfield in 2025 where he will be given plenty of chance to shine following the departures of Hayden Sampson, Arlo and Sid Draper.
Not only can Hargrave find the footy with ease, he uses it well by hand and foot entering the forward 50m arc while also being able to hit the scoreboard from the centre square.
Phoenix Hargrave is primed for midfield minutes in 2025.
SA U18 coach Tony Bamford profiles the Panthers’ players in 2025
Elliott Duffield
Elliott is a developing tall defender who has come off an impressive bottom-age season in 2024. He has shown in the past an ability to compete well enough to negate his opponent’s aerial impact while also displaying sound decision-making and kicking skills. He is lightly built when compared to other key position players so he will continue to build his size and strength in the year ahead.
Kodah Edwards
Kodah was the SA U16 captain in 2024 and one of our nine bottom-age (U17) players who completed the State Academy program. He has primarily been played as a ball-winning inside midfielder. Kodah is very dynamic and powerful and has an ability to move laterally inside traffic to find his way into space and move the ball effectively to his teammates ahead of the ball. Kodah has worked hard over the preseason to continue to develop his stoppage craft and his transition skills.
Archie Van Dyk
Archie was one of our nine bottom age (U17) players who completed the State Academy program. He is a bigger-bodied inside midfielder who has no trouble winning his own footy in contested situations. He has also shown an ability to play across half-back and be an effective defender for his team. Archie uses his footy smarts to turn up at the right spot, at the right time, to get his hands on the ball. He has worked very hard over the preseason to improve his speed and acceleration, to help him impact more in the transition phase of the game.
Cain Florance
Cain is highly-talented player who last year relocated from Kangaroo Island to live in Adelaide to further his schooling and exposure to the SAFC talent programs. He was one of our nine bottom-age (U17) players who completed the State Academy program. He is a smaller midfielder/high half-forward who has very high game IQ and uses the ball really well in the front half of the oval. Cain has worked very hard over the preseason to improve fundamental skills while under physical pressure.
Angus White
“Gus” was another of our nine bottom-age (U17) players who completed the State Academy program. He had a very impressive 2024 season playing in half-forward/midfield roles for SAFC U16. During the State Academy program, Gus showed elite level training standards and a very strong focus and inner drive to find ways to improve all aspects of his game. He is ultra competitive and enjoys the physical aspects of footy. Gus focused on improving his body craft in contest and decision-making skills during the State Academy program.
