It’s finals fever for many juniors this week, and being Dental Health Week 2024 there is no better time to take steps to help keep your teeth and smile for life on the field.

When it comes to playing footy, participants of all ages and at all levels should be protecting their teeth and mouth with a well-fitted custom mouthguard.

While a ‘no mouthguard, no play’ policy is enforced by many clubs, wearing a mouthguard on the field should be an essential part of the match day routine for every player.

According to the Australian Dental Association (ADA), the most effective protection against oral damage during contact sport is a custom-fitted mouthguard.

The ADA says a precision fit and quality materials in a mouthguard are the best way to ensure maximum comfort and injury prevention.*

According to Dr Aaron Parker, lead dentist at Health Partners Dental, the best protection for the mouth in contact sport is a custom-fitted mouthguard.

“Overall, research has shown that custom-made mouthguards do offer superior protection compared to other types of mouthguards which are not custom-made,” Dr Parker said.

“This is because of a better fit and teeth coverage, and less interference with speech and breathing.”

This season, as part of SANFL’s partnership with leading South Australian health insurance provider Health Partners, there is even more reason to wear a custom-fitted mouthguard.

Any registered junior and senior footy player in South Australia can proudly display their team colours on their custom-fitted mouthguard.

As a bonus, players with Health Partners Better and Best Extras Cover receive 100 per cent of the cost back on a custom-designed mouthguard at Health Partners Dental.

All other registered players without the selected Extras Cover can receive a 25 per cent discount on a custom-designed mouthguard at a Health Partners Dental practice just by mentioning this offer.

As a premier partner of SANFL, Health Partners proudly supports the SANFL men’s and women’s State League competitions.

The partnership also provides exclusive benefits in 2024 to all registered SANFL and affiliated community league players, coaches and umpires, SANFL and SANFL Club staff, including discounted health cover on selected cover types.
