King’s Birthday SANFL blockbuster to feature Unley’s first Kick n Sip street festival

A blockbuster footy rivalry, food trucks to satisfy hungry fans, wine and gin bars, live music, and entertainment and activities for all ages.

Now, that’s a King’s Birthday event to cheer about.

Sturt Football Club will be celebrating its long weekend marquee Hostplus SANFL League blockbuster match-up against Norwood on Monday, June 10, with an inaugural ‘Kick n Sip Festival’ outside the oval bringing eats, beats and footy fun to Thomas Farms Oval, Unley.

Supported by the City of Unley, the festival will be held on Trimmer and Oxford terraces which will be partially closed and transformed with food trucks (pizza, seafood, paella and desserts), and wine and gin stands thanks to Farmer’s Leap Wines and Needle and Pin Spirits.

Fresh FM DJ LEZEN will spin tunes and heating and festoon lighting will add to the atmosphere as Sturt and SANFL team up to deliver an action-packed menu of on-field and off-field action.

Inside the oval, a triple-treat of Reserves, Women’s League and Men’s League clashes begins at 9.50am, supported by off-field SANFL Super Match activities, presented by The Advertiser, and giveaways including:

AAMI Lucky Zone: Visit the zone to win a $100 food and beverage voucher to enjoy on the day

SANFL has also partnered with MND South Australia to raise money in support of people diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.

SANFL Chief Executive Darren Chandler said the Kick n Sip Festival was a great example of clubs and the League working together to deliver dynamic game day activities for footy supporters and the wider community.

“I can’t think of a better way to end the Long Weekend than to spend a day at the footy and I commend Sturt pulling together this event which, along with the SANFL Super Match activities, will elevate the gameday atmosphere and showcase community footy at its best,” he said.

“Sturt versus Norwood is always one of the best attended matches on the SANFL calendar and this promises to be one of the best yet, so I urge everyone to come along, enjoy the festivities, the footy action and dig deep to support the outstanding work of MND SA.”

Chandler said the event is also an opportunity for the community to celebrate the return of football in 2024 to the redeveloped Unley oval and Sturt Football Club facility, which was named 2023 Community Football Facility of the Year.
