No disguising Wigg’s 100 games

North Adelaide’s Harrison Wigg is relishing his role change as he approaches his 100th Hostplus SANFL League game against West Adelaide at Prospect on Saturday.

Chiefly pigeon-holed as a running half-back flanker, Wigg is averaging 29.9 disposals playing on the wing or through the centre square under Roosters coach Jacob Surjan.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, the 25-year-old is embracing his move further up the field after being selected at half-back in the 2017 and 2020 The Advertiser SANFL Team of the Year.

Racking up a career-high 45 disposals against Glenelg in Round 6, Wigg is forming a dangerous three-way midfield combination with teammates Campbell Combe and Aaron Young.

Wigg has fond memories making his SANFL League debut for Adelaide against his beloved Roosters at Prospect in Round 1 of 2015, having just been drafted by the Crows.

There was plenty of friendly banter from his former North teammates, including now captain Alex Spina, and the vocal red-and-white crew as he kicked the ball in at the Robran End at Menzies Crescent.

Returning to North in 2020 after an injury-riddled two seasons with the Gold Coast Suns in 2018 and 2019, the silky left-footer is hungry to taste premiership success after missing out in 2018 and playing in the losing 2020 outfit.

Working with his uncle in constructing and repairing walls and ceilings, Wigg has a newfound appreciation for the commitment required to play at SANFL level while holding down a physcial full-time job.
