SANFL Statement: Racial vilification

Friday, August 5

STATEMENT FROM SANFL

The SANFL supports the AFL’s investigation and penalties handed down to Adelaide Football Club player Taylor Walker in relation to a racially vilifying comment made at the SANFL State League match between North Adelaide and Adelaide on July 17 at Prospect Oval.

The League is disappointed that this type of offensive behaviour is still prevalent in our game and is united with the AFL against all racism.

SANFL General Manager Football Matt Duldig today said:

“We have zero tolerance for any form of vilification as it is completely at odds with the values and spirit of SANFL, its football programs and competitions.

“This incident serves as a reminder of the need to continue to educate everyone in our football community to address the issue of racial vilification, from community level through to AFL.

“We will continue to work with the North Adelaide Football Club and provide the necessary support to Robbie Young, whose wellbeing is a priority at this time.

“SANFL is committed to embracing diversity and inclusion in football through a range of initiatives and programs, including delivery of the SANFL APY League and education for all SANFL players.

“SANFL acknowledges the investigation undertaken by the AFL Integrity Unit and fully supports the sanctions and penalties handed down to Taylor Walker and will take no further action on the matter.”
