Football’s gain is cricket’s loss when it comes to North Adelaide’s Jamison Murphy.

The Torrens University Draft Target has opted to concentrate on playing the winter game despite captaining Australia’s Under-16 cricket team in a one-day tour of Dubai last year.

A talented all-rounder with bat and ball, Murphy hasn’t spent much time with the Roosters due to his cricket commitments.

The 17-year-old featured in nine U18 Torrens University Cup games for North last year and was named in the best players on seven occasions.

“Jamison is a tough and smart ball-winning midfielder with an elite kick who also possess quality leadership skills,” Torrens University SA U18 coach Tony Bamford said.

“He can also play at half-back. He models his game a bit on Hawthorn premiership player Luke Hodge in that role but I see him playing a lot of midfield in the future.’’

Originally from Port Pirie where he played juniors for both Ports FC and Broughton-Mundoora, Murphy moved down to the city so he could board at Prince Alfred College.

Described by Roosters Talent Manager Neil Sanders as having a ”beautiful long kick”, Murphy – who measures in at 181cm and 82kg – was also a member of the championship-winning Torrens University SA U16 team in 2018.

''Jamison is a tough and smart ball-winning midfielder with an elite kick who also possess quality leadership skills.''
