Update: SANFL APY League Grand Final

Statement from SANFL Chief Executive Officer Darren Chandler

Friday, September 3

SANFL yesterday made the decision to postpone the SANFL APY League football grand final that was originally scheduled for this Saturday, September 4.

This followed advice from SA Police of several threats of violence in relation to the grand final, which presented an unacceptable risk to players, volunteers, officials, spectators and SANFL staff.

The timing and location for the football grand final will be considered once the safety of staff and teams involved can be guaranteed and this decision will be undertaken in close consultation with SA Police. At this stage, the SANFL APY League softball Grand Final will proceed on Saturday as planned.

SANFL once again reiterates that we absolutely do not tolerate threatening, anti-social or violent behaviour of any kind and the decision to postpone the Grand Final has the support of the National Indigenous Australians Agency, which is the key funding partner of the SANFL APY League.
