Spina proud to be sporting No.10 in No.150

By ZAC MILBANK

North Adelaide’s Alex Spina is enjoying his time as captain, even more so while having the honour of donning the famous No.10 guernsey.

Preparing for his 150th Hostplus SANFL League game on Saturday, Spina is the first skipper at Prospect to be wearing No.10 in recognising club legend Barrie Robran.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, the 27-year-old was chuffed to meet Robran for the first time upon being handed the jumper before Round 1.

And now, the ultra-reliable defender is desperate to wear it in a winning side on Grand Final day in a month’s time.

But first, Spina must help guide his Roosters to a win against Sturt at Unley on Saturday, with victory securing the club’s first minor premiership since 1989.

Quick to point out his team’s shock loss to the Double Blues at Oxford Terrace late in last season’s minor round, Spina has been playing his cards close to his chest this week with housemate and Sturt skipper James Battersby.

A PE teacher at Nazareth Catholic College, Spina is driven by missing out on a premiership medallion after breaking his collarbone in the 2018 Preliminary Final.
